Material Manager

Job Description

• Lead, mentor, and manage a dedicated team of Material Foremen and storekeepers.
• Coordinate daily with the Project Manager, Site Engineers, and Subcontractors to ensure material delivery schedules seamlessly align with construction phases (Structural, Architectural, M&E, and Precast).
• Oversee site storage layouts, ensuring efficient space utilization, proper preservation of weather-sensitive materials, and adherence to Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations.
• Supervise the receiving, inspection, and verification of all inbound materials against delivery orders, approved material forms, and HDB specifications.
• Maintain accurate, real-time inventory records using site material logs.
• Establish and enforce strict material requisition and allocation procedures for subcontractors to control and record material consumption.
• Conduct regular reconciliation audits comparing actual material usage against calculated structural/architectural take-offs to identify discrepancies early.
• Actively implement site-wide wastage control initiatives, specifically targetting structural concrete, rebars, brickwork, tiling, and drywall components.
• Compile comprehensive, periodic material consumption and stock level reports for executive management.
• Track and present variance reports analyzing estimated budget quantities versus actual usage, highlighting cost implications and mitigation plans.

Requirements

• Minimum 8 years of material management or site logistics experience in the Singapore construction industry, with a proven track record specifically on HDB BTO projects.
• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
• Deep, practical familiarity with all types of building materials used in public housing, including precast components (facades, household shelters, columns), structural concrete/rebar, and architectural wet trades (tiles, skims, waterproofing).
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel (for advanced reporting) and experienced with construction ERP systems or inventory control software.
• Exceptional leadership, strict discipline, assertive negotiation capabilities with vendors/subcontractors, and the ability to thrive under tight project timelines.
• Able to work 5.5days on HDBBTO construction site.
